Zoe Kemp

Dental Therapist
GDC Number: 295494

“The hygiene chair can feel daunting for a lot of people, and I understand that. My job is to make it feel straightforward — to explain what I am doing, why it matters, and help people leave knowing how to keep their mouth healthier until we see them again.”

About Zoe

Zoe Kemp’s connection to Newkirkgate Dental Care goes back further than her registration as a dental therapist. She joined the practice as a dental nurse and spent two years there before going on to study at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2024 with a BSc (Hons) in Oral Health Sciences. Returning to Newkirkgate as a qualified dental therapist, she brought with her not just a new clinical qualification but a deep familiarity with the practice, the team and the patients that makes her appointments feel immediately comfortable and well-managed.

Zoe is particularly good at working with patients who are anxious about hygiene appointments, and there is a specific kind of anxiety that hygiene appointments produce, not quite the same as treatment anxiety, but related, that Zoe addresses with a calm, methodical and gently reassuring manner.

She is passionate about oral health education in a way that is practical rather than theoretical. She has seen, from both sides of the nurse-therapist transition, how much difference good information and good technique make to a patient’s oral health between appointments, and she invests real energy in making sure patients leave with both.

Her approach to every appointment is to be thorough where thoroughness is needed and gentle where gentleness matters, and to make the two feel like the same thing.

Clinical Interests

Anxious Hygiene Patients

Zoe has a particular talent for managing patients who find hygiene appointments stressful. She creates a calm environment, explains every step before carrying it out, and adjusts her pace to match the patient in front of her.

Oral Health Education

The educational component of every appointment is something Zoe takes seriously. She makes sure patients understand not just what to do but why it matters and how to actually do it correctly, in a way that is supportive rather than prescriptive.

Preventive Treatment

From scaling and polishing to fissure sealants and fluoride applications, Zoe brings careful attention to all the preventive treatments within the dental therapist scope of practice.

Outside Dentistry

Zoe enjoys visiting the theatre, reading, playing golf and baking. She is the kind of person who brings the same care to their hobbies as to their work, which says something about the attention she gives to every hygiene appointment.
