PERSONAL QUOTE
“Having worked in several different countries and with patients from very different backgrounds, what I have learned is that the fundamentals of good dental care are the same everywhere. Listening carefully, working gently, and making sure the patient understands what is happening and why.”
About Danya
Danya Sammani brings one of the most internationally diverse clinical backgrounds of anyone on the Newkirkgate team. She graduated from Aleppo University in 2011 as a dentist and subsequently practised across several countries, accumulating a breadth of clinical experience across different healthcare systems, patient populations and clinical environments before relocating to the UK and registering as a dental therapist.
That breadth of experience shows in her clinical confidence and in her approach to patients. She has worked with people from a wide range of cultural, linguistic and social backgrounds, and the practical knowledge that comes from that exposure, of how to communicate clearly, how to build trust quickly and how to make patients feel comfortable in situations that are already inherently unfamiliar, is something most clinicians spend decades trying to develop.
Danya’s approach to hygiene and therapy appointments is patient-centred in the truest sense. She is not just interested in the technical outcome of the appointment. She is interested in whether the patient leaves better equipped to look after their own oral health. That means taking time to explain, to check understanding, and to give advice that is realistic for the individual’s actual circumstances rather than an idealised version of them.

Clinical Interests
Patient-Centred Care
Danya's primary focus in every appointment is the patient's experience and understanding. She takes time to make sure patients know what is happening and why, and that they leave with clear, practical guidance they can follow.
Preventive Oral Health
Helping patients improve their oral health through professional treatment and personalised advice is the core of her clinical work. She measures success partly by whether patients' mouths are in better shape at each subsequent appointment.
Cross-Cultural Communication
Her extensive experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds gives Danya a particular ability to adapt her communication to the individual, which is valuable in a practice that serves a diverse community like Leith.
Outside Dentistry
Danya enjoys swimming and travelling. Having built a clinical career across several countries, she has a broad perspective on the world that informs her approach both inside and outside the practice.
